Samuel Donald Tressler, Jr.

Samuel Donald Tressler, Jr. passed away March 1, 2024 in Sherwood, Arkansas at the age of 97.  He was born August 19, 1926 to Samuel Donald Tressler, Sr. and Florence Senn Tressler.

He graduated high school from Fort Smith Northside High School in 1944.  He served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, attached to the Sino American Cooperative Organization (SACO) as a radio operator providing coded intelligence.  He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas in 1950. After college Don started his career with the J.C.Penney Co. where he became a store manager.  In 1975 he opened Tressler Fashions in McKinney, TX, operated Tressler Insurance Agency in McKinney, Texas and eventually worked with Kelly Davis Real Estate until 1990 as a realtor.

Don was Deacon, Elder, and Chairman of the Board at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in McKinney. He was a very strong believer in Christ since childhood and learned God’s word. Don was a part of the Rotary Club for many years and became a Paul Harris Fellow in McKinney, Texas, served on the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary Board, was a member of Triune Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas for 20 years from 1990-2010.

He is survived by his son, Samuel Donald Tressler III, daughter, Carolyn Elaine Tressler Bixby and Carol Chancellor Jenkins; grandchildren, Nikolaus Tressler, Gretchen Tressler, Zachary Tressler, Evan Chancellor, Josh Jenkins, Melody Jenkins Harris, Leslie Jenkins Riggs, Kate Boase Gregory, Travis Boase, and Marissa Porter; 13 great grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Freeman Tressler; wife, Helen Chancellor Tressler; parents, Sam and Florence Tressler; son, Paul Tressler; stepson, Gary Chancellor and daughter-in-law, Penny Tressler.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Samuel’s obituary page and the recorded live stream is available for viewing by clicking on https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/samuel-donald-tressler-jr.  Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

 In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First United Methodist Church North Little Rock, Arkansas.
