Mr. Sam Knott, Sr. age 97, born on November 1, 1910 in Kansas City, Missouri passed away May 23, 2008, in McKinney, Texas. Besides his love of golf, he was a renowned trap shooter at the old Elliotts Shooting Park in Raytown, Missouri. His most remarkable feat was in 1967, where he was runner-up to the Grand American Trap Shooting Champion in Vandalia, Ohio, beating out over 3000 shooters.
He spent most of his life in the Sporting goods business. He was co-owner of Elliott-Knott Sporting Goods in Prairie Village, Kansas, and was vice-president of the Elliott Arms Company in Kansas City, Missouri. Sam was a WW II veteran serving in the European theatre at the Battle of Bulge and also an M.P. in the final days of the war.
He leaves a son, Sam Jr. and his wife, Lila. He had one grandson, Wade and two great grandchildren, Austin and Luke. All reside in McKinney, Texas. He also leaves his sister, Patricia Giesige of Celina, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mary Ann (Sugar) Knott.
