Sally Schaefer Cathriner

Sally (Schaefer) Cathriner, age 88 of Plano, Texas, passed away July 7, 2018.  She was born on March 2, 1930, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Carl Eugene and Violet Marie (Clemens) Schaefer.  Sally grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin, and graduated from Appleton High School in 1948.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1952.  Sally was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  She moved to New York City, NY, where she worked for International General Electric for 2 years before leaving to travel around Europe for three months.  Upon her return to New York City, Sally worked for the advertising agency, J. Walter Thompson.  She met her husband-to-be, as he was passing through New York City while serving in the United States Air Force, through an introduction by a mutual friend.  The two kept in touch through letters until they could meet in person, again. Sally married Richard Lee “Dick” Cathriner on June 15, 1957 in Larchmont, New York.  They lived in California, Alaska, and Texas.  They enjoyed 52 years together and raised three children.

Sally was an enrolled agent (EA) and owned Plano Tax Service in Plano, Texas, where she prepared tax returns.  She was a member of the Junior League of Collin County.  Sally enjoyed playing bridge with both the Junior League of Collin County and the Kappa Kappa Gamma bridge groups for many, many years.  She loved traveling, going on cruises, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sally is survived by her sons, Richard J. Cathriner and wife, Janet of Plano, Texas, Robert A. Cathriner and wife, Lettie of Frisco, Texas, daughter, Carla Birmingham and husband, David of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Birmingham and wife, Megan, Richard T. Ji-Cathriner and wife, Wendy, Sara Cathriner, Adam Cathriner, Callie Birmingham, and Jared Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Solomon Birmingham and Annalee Birmingham; brother, Stuart Schaefer of Middleton, Wisconsin; sister, Jan Wright of Long Beach, California; and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Violet Schaefer; and her husband, Richard Lee “Dick” Cathriner.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
