Much beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, Sadie Marvin Montagna passed away on October 16, 2022 in Frisco, Texas. Born on February 27, 1923 in Maple Shade, New Jersey, she died of natural causes at age 99.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, Rosario (Russ) Montagna, in 2015. Theirs was a story book romance that began with a chance encounter one night at a luncheonette in Boston, where Russ, a musician touring with the renowned Louis Prima Band, was on a break between shows. Russ and Sadie were longtime residents of Levittown NY, where they raised their two sons, and Russ pursued his career as bandleader, composer. They relocated to Plano, Texas in 1991, where Russ continued to teach, write and perform until the age of 95. Sadie worked part time as an accounting assistant until the Covid lockdown of 2020. Through her 90s she kept things humming, writing checks and fielding phone calls at her desk, looking forward to ordering her favorites for lunch — including French fries — at a local deli with family.
She was also predeceased by her loving brother Milton Louis Marvin, and her first granddaughter Jodi Ferguson, Karen Gordier, daughter in law, and Taffey, her beloved French poodle who lived 19 years.
Sadie is survived by her sons, Gerald and Gary Montagna and Larry Gordier; her granddaughter, Gina Montagna; Tammy Waymaster, Brenda Weintgartz, and daughters-in-law Giselle Montagna and Debra Gordier.
Sadie enjoyed holidays with her in-laws (Salcedos and Veras) and delighted in remembering birthdays and sending Easter baskets. Her adopted grandkids Susy and Cesar, along with Regina, Vanessa, and Diego, have special memories of her, and the joyful gatherings at Skippy & Russ’s Levittown home for Christmas Eve and barbecues in the summer will never be forgotten. Always a thoughtful correspondent, Sadie exchanged letters with family around the country throughout her life. Her home was full of memorabilia and photos that she enjoyed sharing. We will miss her laughter, her stories, her affection, and the perennial twinkle in her eyes.
