Ruth Helen Lucas

Ruth Helen Lucas of McKinney, Texas passed away on May 13, 2021 at the age of 76. She was born on July 11, 1944 to Harley and Hazel (Murray) Cole in Enid, Oklahoma.  Ruth graduated from high school in Enid, Oklahoma and attended Phillips University.  She continued to University of Oklahoma to get her undergraduate degree as a nurse.  Ruth met her husband, Jerry, in Enid, Oklahoma after she graduated.  She married Jerry Kent Lucas on March 25, 1967 in Enid.  After marriage, they traveled extensively during Jerry’s career in the Air Force and lived in eleven states over 21 years. They raised their family along the way.  Ruth was passionate about nursing and patient care over her 40-year career as a registered nurse.  Ruth was full of life and enjoyed taking trips with her husband and family.  She took great pride in taking care of her yard and planting beautiful flowers in her garden.  One of her many joys was decorating her house for different holidays throughout the year.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Lucas of McKinney, Texas; children, Lara Dulaney and husband, Eddie of McKinney, Texas, Brian Lucas of San Diego, California, and Gene Bigham and wife, Krista of Cedar Hill, Texas; grandchildren Brock, Danielle, Dylan, Brett, and Rachael; sister, Mary Nell Schultz of Allen, Texas; brother, Paul Cole and wife, Margaret of Alva, Oklahoma; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, “The Reverend” Harley Cole; mother, Hazel Cole; brother, Edward Cole; and sister, Mildred Bockelman.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
