Ruth Arlene Cate

Ruth Arlene Cate of McKinney, Texas passed peacefully from this life into the arms of our Lord on March 20, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born November 27, 1933 to Hoyett Overton and Edna Ruth (Mayfield) Riddle in Winters, Texas. Arlene grew up in Winters and surrounding areas, where she attended schools. While in Winters as a young teenager, she met the love of her life, Wayland Buford Cate. Arlene and Wayland were married on December 21, 1950 in Ballinger, Texas. Arlene loved the life she and Wayland built together. Arlene loved God, her husband, her family, her home, friends, and all things beautiful. While raising her family, Arlene became a certified Montessori Preschool teacher, where she taught in Amarillo, Texas and Farmington, New Mexico. Arlene was artistic, talented and a perfectionist, especially when teaching children. She also enjoyed painting, decorating, refinishing furniture, and reading her bible. Arlene was blessed by God with a long life that touched many hearts. Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the Lord; is the death of his faithful servants”. Arlene had a long and loving relationship with God established by her faith. She was a member of High Point Church of Christ in McKinney, Texas.

Arlene is survived by her children, Larry Cate of Farminton, New Mexico, Vicki Englehart and husband, Rob of Cortez, Colorado, Brandon and wife, Stacy of Prosper, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jeff Englehart, Jordan (Emily) Englehart, Alan Cate, April Englehart, Catelyn (Bill) Hilzer, Audrey Cate, Carley Cate and Kelsey Cate; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Roan, August and Waylon; sister Carolyn Shillig of McKinney, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland; infant son, Randy Dee Cate; her parents; brother, Curtis G. Riddle; sister, Joyce A. Townsend.

Interment will be held at Shep Cemetery, Taylor County, Texas. A celebration memorial service will be held at a later date this summer.
