Ruth Eleanor (Jones) Lewis, 83, of Celina, TX, formerly of Wampsville, NY, passed away on March 18, 2017 in her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1934, in Chicago, IL to William G. Jones and Helen (Hall) Jones. Ruth married Harry Dawson Lewis on June 14, 1953 in Oak Lawn, IL and together they raised 4 beautiful children. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Oneida, NY for over 40 years, and since moving to Texas in 2012, she has been a member of the Church of the Savior in Allen, TX.
Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She gained her greatest strength from her deep commitment to her faith and her life reflected her belief in His mercy and love for all. Ruth spent much of her time serving St. John’s through many ministries and serving on its’ vestry. She loved gardening, sewing, and needlework, especially sharing her creations lovingly with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her children; daughter, Candy (Lewis) Simchik and husband Richard of Celina; sons, Michael Lewis and wife Jean of Canastota, NY, and Mark Lewis and partner Kasia Michalkow of Lafayette, NY; 10 grandchildren, Leah (Simchik) Matalik and husband Mark, Kristen (Simchik) Lassiter and husband Cameron, Adam Simchik and fiancée Ashlyn Petrocco, Elyse Simchik, Timothy Lewis and partner Kimberly Carpenter, Tabatha (Lewis) Radley and husband Dustin, Nichole (Lewis) McIlhinney and husband Aaron, Rebecca Lewis, Joshua Lewis and fiancée Amanda Elmy, and Tyler Lewis. She feels especially blessed to have been part of her 8 great-grandchildren’s lives; Luke, Ashley, Shayla, Rylie, Lucas, Blake, Drake, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Jones and wife Judy of Oak Lawn, IL; sister-in-law, Linda (Lewis) Mumford and husband Fred of Sherrill, NY; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Harry Lewis; son, Scott Edward Lewis; and brother, William Jones and his wife Grace.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Church of the Savior, 110 S. Alma Rd, Allen, TX with Rev. Michael Hurst officiating. A memorial service at St. John’s and interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Wampsville, NY will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that your private donations be made to Church of the Savior or the Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
