Ruth Ann Wright, affectionately known to many as ‘Granma’, passed away February 6, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Denison, Texas. She would have celebrated her 80th birthday in 12 days! Ruth Ann was born to Miles (Mike) and Lucille (Schmal) Myers in Hammond, Indiana on February 22, 1938. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1956.
Ruth Ann was married to the love of her life, KP Wright for 32 years until his death in 2006.
Ruth Ann was the “jackie of all trades” and held many types of jobs over her life span. Her family would laugh and often say “ask Granma, she probably knows how”! As a teenager she worked at the local movie theatre, worked as a janitor (with four small kids in tow!) She later became a dispatcher with the Hobbs Police Department and then went into accounting and did bookkeeping for local CPA offices. Her last job was her best job as she would say…. Lunch lady at the school cafeteria! Ruth Ann never was afraid to offer up a second helping to those who asked or sneak ice cream to her grands!
Her life was dedicated to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her daughter Kathy, she attended football games, soccer games, band concerts, graduations. But, volleyball was her game of choice while K’lyn was playing. When Kandis started playing, the volleyball attendance continued as long as she could make it. She was her happiest, loudest, and cockiest while cheering on her great-grandchildren at any sport competition.
Ruth Ann is survived by her four children, Kathy Tenner of Denison, Texas, Sue Worthy of San Antonio, Texas, Karen Rhoades (Johnny) of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Mike (Sandy) Roberts of Escondido, California; step- children, Kenneth Wright Jr (Shannon) of Lubbock, Texas, Kevin Wright (Krystal) of Gardner, Kansas and Kami Randolph (Monty) of Hobbs, New Mexico; grandchildren, Kacy (Derrick) Thomas, Jera (Hassan Proby) Tenner, Jordonn Smith, Cameron Smith, Matthew Worthy, Lauren Worthy, Jason Acevedo, Samantha Acevedo , Michael Roberts, Chrissy Roberts, and Rachel Roberts of Escondido California, Korbi Randolph of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Brett (Halle) Wright of Gardner, Kansas; great-grandchildren, K’lyn Tenner, Kelcey and Kandis Banks, Dallen, Kacen and Javen Thomas, and Mackenzie and Madison Acevedo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Vernon E. Roberts, and grandson Kutter Randolph.
