IN LOVING MEMORY

Ruby Saundra Fenderson Johnson

Nov 06 1940 - May 06 2023

Ruby Saundra Fenderson Johnson was born to Lucinda Jones and Rudolph Musgrave on November 6, 1940. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, with long black hair.  Ruby was affectionately given the family nickname of “Beauty”.  After a long illness, she passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023.

At the age of 12, Ruby moved to New York City after the passing of her mother.  She was raised by her older sister and her brother-in-law, Mary and June Adams.  In her early teens, Ruby met Tommie Johnson and they were married on May 20, 1961.  She is survived by her dear husband, Thomas George Johnson.  Their loving children are:  Marc Wendel Johnson (deceased), Kris Johnson Floyd in Frisco Texas, Fern Fenderson Johnson in Frisco Texas; a son-in-law, Alfonso Floyd Jr.; grandson, Alexander Ellis Floyd; and special “adopted” sons, Brent Beard, Ralph Harper, and Michael L. Sherard.

Ruby was a wonderful and loving wife, homemaker, and mother to her family.  For many years, while caring for her young children, she honed her skills as an excellent seamstress and made many beautiful garments for her family as well as upholstery and window treatments to adorn her home.  Ruby’s most important task was being a mother raising Kris and Fern.  She poured into them love, home skills, and the priority of education and hard work— “do it right the first time!”, she would say.  Ruby influenced her daughters to take on special skills that she did not have the opportunity to pursue and develop.  This included learning the piano, violin/viola, riding a bike, and studying second languages.

Ruby’s professional career was anchored in health care where she first started as a hypertension studies analyst with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  After moving to Danbury Connecticut in the 1980’s, she studied and graduated from the Danbury Hospital School of Radiologic Technology and became a certified radiographer and sonographer in X-ray, Vascular, and Ultrasound technology.  Ruby enjoyed her work at Danbury Hospital and she also worked at additional Westchester County New York, Connecticut and Texas hospitals until she retired.  She maintained all of her medical certifications well into her 70’s.

Ruby was a faithful woman of God that leaned not to her own understanding.  She always acknowledged God and was ready with a humble praise to Him.  Over the years, Ruby developed many life-long friendships from the tri-state area of New York, the Dallas metroplex area, and her home state of Virginia.  She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.  Ruby is a blessing to the family and will always be immensely loved!

Tommie, Kris, and Fern are extremely grateful for the attentive and loving caregivers that helped take care of our wife and mother.  We are eternally grateful for the love of Tracy Kind, Annouthanet Houston, Tasha Walker, Luice Kimani, Gabby Baxter, Marta Nandin, the many caregivers from both the Visiting Angels and Caring Senior Services agencies, and the Memory Care staff of Hidden Springs.  Thank you and we love you!

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, May 12, 2023 at One Community Church, Plano Campus, 2400 SH-121, Plano, Texas 75025.  The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ruby will be laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York following an additional service to be on Monday, May 15, 2023 at McMahon Lyon & Harnett Funeral Home located at 491 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, New York 10605.  The visiting hour will be at 11:00 a.m. (eastern) followed by the service at 12:00 noon (eastern).  If you are in the New York area and would like to send flowers, please send them directly to the funeral home in White Plains.
