Tommy Rubarts

April 18, 1937 - January 8, 2020

Tommy Rubarts went to his heavenly home on January 8, 2020.  He was born April 18, 1937 in Sherman, Texas, son of Nolan Dee and Vera Mae Wetzel Rubarts.  Tommy lived in and around Sherman until 1948 when the family moved to Garland.

He graduated from Garland High School in 1955 and joined the Marine Corps shortly thereafter.  Tommy was working for Raymond Cooper at Universal Transformers in Wyle, Texas when he was attracted to a young lady, Bonnie Jean Dodd, who was completing an application for employment.  They dated for three months and were married May 27, 1960 at his brother Charles’s home in Garland, Texas. Tommy and Bonnie were blessed with three children; Kelly DeWayne, Dana Michele, and Jason Scott.  The Rubarts family has been devout members of the Assembly of God Church for 50+ years.  Tommy was a minister and pastored a church in Royce City, Texas for a short time.  He devoted his time to his home church, First Assembly of God in Plano, for many years.

Tommy retired from Western Union after 30 years of service when they shut down the telegraph and teletype business.  He was the telecommunications maintenance manager over several states.  After his retirement, he drove a school bus for PISD while attending college and searching for another job.  Tommy decided to be a long-haul truck driver and went to work for Schneider.  After many years, he achieved the million miles driven and retired soon after.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Dana Park; son, Jason; daughter-in-law, Mary Rubarts; granddaughter, Lauren Rubarts; grandson, Tyler Rubarts; great-granddaughter, Alina Park; brother, Don (Nona) Rubarts; and many nieces and nephews.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kelly; brothers, Charles and Joe Rubarts; sisters, Carol Sue Wells and Barbara Rubarts.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
