Roy L. Nelson

Roy L. Nelson departed this world into heaven on July 13, 2015 in Whitewright, Texas at the age of 51.

Roy was born on May 2, 1964 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Prosper High School in 1982 where he was awarded the Most Courteous of his graduating class. His senior year of high school the baseball team went to state playoffs where Roy was presented All-State Second Baseman from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. On January 14, 1984 he married Teresa Ann Doty in McKinney, Texas.

He was employed twenty-nine years with the U.S. Postal Service and served the last fifteen years as Postmaster in Whitewright, Texas, where he resided with his family. He proudly served his community and adored his post office family. He was an active member of DFOA, TASO and coordinator of Red River Youth Football League Officials. He was a member of Kentuckytown Baptist Church. Roy deeply loved his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, as well as his community, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by wife, Teresa Nelson of Whitewright; daughters, Stephanie Minzenmayer and husband Justin of Whitewright, Sarah Rainey and husband Jason of Melissa; grandchildren, Taryn and Todd Minzenmayer, and Colt Rainey; and was excited to meet another Rainey grandchild later this year; mother, Marilyn Pipes and husband Robert of Quitman; father, Willie Nelson of Celina; brother, Willie Nelson, Jr. of Celina; sister, Carrie Logan and husband John of The Woodlands; brother, Steven Nelson, and wife Deborah of McKinney; sister, Tammy Calhoun and husband Ralph of Dike; mother-in-law, Joyce Doty of Whitewright; brother-in-law, Freddie Doty of Bells; Joshua Minzenmayer of Whitewright whom he regarded like a son; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew along with a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Fred Doty, whom he deeply admired.

Memorial Services will be held 5:00pm, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Kentuckytown Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Greg Allen and Rev. Rodney Stanford.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 7-9pm at the Kentuckytown Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas.
