Ronald J. Smith, 82, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, in Allen, Texas. He was born on December 27, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, to his loving parents Jess Smith and Miranda Omega (Simpson) Smith.
Ronald grew up in California and graduated from Porterville High School. At the age of 17, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country honorably for three years. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a helicopter pilot, dedicating more than 30 years to the profession he loved. Known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to excellence, he took great pride in his work and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
A special chapter of his life began when Ronald met Connie Lee Engel. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and on March 11, 1979, they were united in marriage in Bakersfield, California. Through the years, they shared a deep bond, standing by one another through life's joys and challenges while creating a lifetime of treasured memories.
Outside of his career, Ronald found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished time spent in nature. He also enjoyed shooting sports and was passionate about firearms, always appreciating the skill, discipline, and camaraderie they provided. Whether on the water, in the field, or sharing stories with family and friends, he embraced life with enthusiasm and purpose.
Above all, Ronald was devoted to his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose guidance, strength, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on those he loved. His greatest pride was watching his family grow through the generations and celebrating their accomplishments.
Ronald's life was marked by service, dedication, adventure, and love for family. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Connie Lee Smith of Allen, Texas; son, Tim Smith (Gabriela) of Allen, Texas; daughters, Ronda Carter (Stan) of Washington State, and Sheila McPhetridge (Brad) of California; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; brother, Steven Smith; and a host of extended family members and friends, who will miss him dearly and fondly cherish his memory.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Miranda Smith, sister, Jeannie Smith, and brother, Van Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for inurnment.
