Ronnie was born on October 29, 1959 in Minden, Louisiana to O.V and Martha Sales. He was the oldest of four boys.  Ronnie graduated from Haughton High School in 1977. He then went on to have a long career in Construction.  Ronnie worked as a carpenter, built bridges, was a foreman and Superintendent on many jobs, worked countless shutdowns, and retired from Beck in August of 2023 after working as a Superintendent for 20 years.

Ronnie, also known as “R” was a cowboy through and through. He and his brother, Van, got their very first cowboy hats at the young ages of 2 and 3 and were taken to the Springhill rodeo. It must have been then when he decided he was going to be a Cowboy.  Ronnie would go with his family to small playdays at the Rebel Riding Club and Haughton Riding Club where they would participate in events such as buddy barrels, barrel racing and pole bending.  He started riding bulls in middle school and continued to do so on into his thirties and even got a wild hair to attempt at the age of 45.  His most favorite stories to tell were those of him and his rodeo buddies and all the adventures that the rodeo road would lead them on.  Although he had to hang up his bull riding spurs, he continued to ride and break horses for many years. Ronnie also had a passion for the great outdoors.  He hunted for many big bucks that would get bigger and bigger every time a story was told.  Ronnie loved to fish. He had many sweet honey holes, and he wasn’t afraid to just pull over on the side of the road if he saw a pond, he thought would be worth casting a line into.  Ronnie’s greatest accomplishment was that of being a Pawpaw.  He introduced his love of being a cowboy, hunter, and fisherman to all his grandchildren. Ronnie enjoyed and took pride in all of his grandchildren’s accomplishments big or small. Although his heart would eventually fail him there is no doubt that he loved the legacy that he has left behind.
