Roger V. Dickey

Roger V. Dickey of McKinney, Texas passed away December 4, 2020 at the age of 71.  He was born on December 11, 1948 to Weldon Dickey and Bessie Mae (Bullard) Dickey in Sherman, Texas.  Roger married Sandra Kay Mitchell on January 23, 1972 in Dallas, Texas.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College in Sherman and received his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University in 1978.  Roger served as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of McKinney for 30 years.  He was also a Municipal Court Judge for the cities of Celina and Frisco, Texas as well as Assistant District Attorney for Collin Country from 1979 – 1985.  Roger was a member of the State Bar of Texas and lifetime member of the Texas Bar Foundation.  Roger was a veteran and served his country proudly as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.  His stations including Camp LeJeune in North Carolina and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from 1973- 1975.  Roger was active in his community through Kiwanis Club of McKinney, Juarez Youth Mission trips which focused on building homes, and Rebuilding Neighborhoods Project with the City of McKinney.  He supported the local youth athletes by acting as a referee for youth soccer games and coaching boy’s baseball teams. Roger also participated in the McKinney Theatre playing leading roles such as Oscar in “The Odd Couple” and Mortimer in “Arsenic and Old Lace”.  He was a member of United Methodist Church in McKinney.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandra Kay Dickey of McKinney, Texas; son, Matthew Dickey and wife, Lauren of Orlando, Florida; daughter, Audrey Dickey of Durham, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kennedy Dickey, Graham Dickey, and Delaney Dickey; siblings, Dennis Dickey, Nancy Dickey, and Vel Ree Dickey; uncle and aunt, Olan and Mildred Bullard; cousins, Beverly Bond, Judy Miles, Eugene Bullard and many other cousins; sister-in-law, Rebecca “Janie” Collier; brother-in-law, David Collier, both of Garland, Texas; brother-in-law, Jimmy Mitchell of Denton, Texas; nephews, Mark and Michael Collier and their families; numerous other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Bessie Mae Dickey.

In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the memorial service.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.  The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Roger’s obituary page by clicking on the following link: Celebrationoflife.tv. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.

However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Roger and show their support to her family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.
