Muckerheide, Roger Obit

Roger Joseph Muckerheide, Jr.

March 24, 1944 - November 9, 2017

In deepest sorrow and with regret we announce the passing of Roger Joseph Muckerheide, Jr., age 73, of Plano, Texas. Roger was born March 24, 1944 and deceased November 9, 2017.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Roger Joseph Muckerheide, Sr., mother, Ruth Anne (Klein) Muckerheide, and “Bart”, his canine best friend.

Roger (“Rusty” to family and childhood friends) is survived by his beloved bride of 36 years Laura (Detzel) Muckerheide, daughter Sarah Garrison with husband Ben, sisters Ellen Flynn and Jane Dillon-Perkl with husband Ken, brothers-in-law Paul Detzel with wife Denice and John Detzel; as well as several uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, and four-legged friend “Jeb”.

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, and moved with his parents to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as an infant where he grew up and went to school. While still in Wisconsin, Roger was able to follow his love for music and sang in a band under the stage name Russ Wilder. In 1974 he moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to pursue his avocation as an antique arms dealer and follow his other passion, the Old West. This led to a lifetime career in sales.

Roger was a collector of antique American firearms, Western art and sculpture, antique furniture and other neat stuff. He was an NRA Life Member, TGCA Life Member, DACA Life Member along with various other collecting fraternities where he established many lifelong friendships.

A Celebration of Life Gathering is planned for March 24th, 2018 (Roger’s 74th birthday) from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home at 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.

But now, this is what the Lord says . . . “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 (NIV)

Pat Ayers, November 12, 2017 Rusty was my oldest cousin and I looked up to him through my youth. We didn't see each other much because my father was in the service, but we made time when we visited Milwaukee. Like many of our relatives we grew apart for a variety of reasons, mostly geography. I still hold him in high regard and wish his family well in this difficult time. Dale Toussaint, November 12, 2017 In our lives we are blessed with a few very special friends. Roger was truly one of those dear people we were honored to know. We have been close to he and his sweet wife, Laura since moving to Texas in the early 90's. A genuine good person, we loved Roger's infectious sense of humor and soft demeanor. We will miss you terribly dear friend. Today heaven is a happier place! Lee & Pam Barkett, November 12, 2017 Roger and I became instant friends when we first met. He honored me with his friendship when he looked me up after he saw me on a program on tv. I have been very grateful for him and his friendship. He had a great knowledge of the blues, and I will sure miss our long talks. Condolences to Laura and Family.
