Rodney “Fuzzy” Plant passed away January 20, 2024 in Richardson, Texas at the age of 73. He was born on September 28, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert Lee and Mildred Lorraine (Manago) Plant, Sr.
Rodney spent his formative years in Detroit and graduated from Central High School. He attended classes at Eastern Michigan University before entering the workforce. Rodney's life took a beautiful turn when he met Georgia, his future wife, through an introduction by his aunt. The couple dated and exchanged vows on September 27, 1974, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Georgia grew up. They built their life together, raising two daughters in the Ypsilanti area.
In 1996, Rodney retired from the State of Michigan, and in 2004, he and Georgia relocated to Texas after the joyous arrival of their first grandchild. Despite facing health challenges during his time in Texas, Rodney displayed unwavering faith, strength, and resilience. He remained deeply connected to his roots, maintaining close ties with family and friends in Detroit. Rodney's love for his family was exemplified through his actions, such as a remarkable journey of over 48 hours on a train - there and back - just to spend eight precious hours holding his newborn granddaughter.
Fiercely loyal, Rodney cherished a select few friends, including his lifelong friend Kenneth Corley, who was like a brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Plant of Richardson, Texas; daughters, Wendy Harmon and husband Wilmot “Ray” of McKinney, Texas, and Sydney Plant of Richardson, Texas; beloved grandchildren, Nia Kennedy Harmon and Levi Lafayette Harmon; brothers, Robert “Robbie” Plant (Buena), Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, and Dirk Plant (Lennel) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and numerous other treasured family and friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Mildred L. Plant, Sr., and his brother, Keith Plant. Rodney will be laid to rest in Detroit, near his loved ones, as a final tribute to the place that held a special significance in his heart.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
