Rockford V. Gray, Jr., age 80, of Frisco, Texas, passed away December 9, 2022. Rocky was born July 23, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, to Rockford Vance and Mary Ruth (Taylor) Gray, Sr. He married his high school sweetheart Sally Jane Peebles in Dallas, and they were blessed with three children. Rockford grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School. He played football at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Rockford completed his Master’s degree at UTD. He started his sign career with Federal Signs in Arlington, Texas and took ownership of Chandler Signs in 1986 and remained there until his retirement in 2016. Rockford was an Eagle Scout in the Circle Ten Council. He was very active in his church and his hobbies were fishing, hunting, and traveling. Rockford especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Rocky was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Hollie Havens and husband, Kirk and Amy Ridings and husband, Mark; son, Rocky Gray, III and wife, Lori; granddaughters, Chandler Sherrod and husband, Cason, Adyson Gray, and Honor Ridings; grandsons, Trent Havens and wife, Valley, Hunter Havens and wife, Julia, Landry Gray, River Ridings, and Catcher Ridings; one great-granddaughter; five great-great-grandsons; sister, Jane Tobehn; and brother-in-law, Jon Peebles and wife, Janis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Gray, Rockford Vance and Mary Ruth (Taylor) Gray Sr., and step-father, T. J. Barton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 950 Mayfield Rd., Grand Prairie, Texas, 75052. Interment will follow at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens, 3001 S. Belt Line Rd., Grand Prairie, Texas, 75052. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
