Robert “Bob” Owens, age 88, of Plano, Texas passed away May 9, 2013. He was born September 11, 1924 in Bronx, New York to Robert and Arabella (Stevenson) Owens. On April 17, 1949, Bob married Lucille Zannoni in West New York, New Jersey. Bob was of the Roman Catholic faith. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps and was in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After returning home, he worked for over 30 years for the Army Air Force Exchange Service. He was an active member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Owens of Plano, Texas; daughter, Karen Yerger and husband, Rucks of Coppell, Texas; son, Dr. Robert Owens and wife, Sherry of Goldsboro, North Carolina ; son, Tom Owens and wife, Margaret of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Jim Yerger, Diana Denham, Robert Owens, Michael Yerger, Jessica Owens, Bryan Owens, Melissa Kiefer, Zachary Owens, Carly Owens-Callan; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Roper and husband, Eddie of South Carolina, Edythe Meehan of Ohio, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Arabella Owens and his sister, Gladys Carroll.

Bob loved all sports, especially baseball, football, and hockey. Having grown up in the Bronx, he loved his Yankees, New York Giants, and New York Rangers. Up until the last few years, he was an avid golfer. In his younger years he was an excellent bowler. He loved playing cards with friends, and he always enjoyed a good game of pool.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Community, 110 St. Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas 75071 with Father Donald Zeiler Celebrant.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
