Robert John Elliott

Robert “Bob” John Elliott of Allen, Texas passed away March 28, 2022 at the age of 62.  He was a devoted member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Plano, Texas.  Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

Robert John Elliott “Robby’ ‘Bob’ was born 1960 Sculthorpe AFB, England, UK where his father was pilot of KB-50 aerial re-fuelers.

In 1961 his family located Dursingham, England where they purchased a brand-new Austin Mini, color Aqua, later exported to the US.

1962 found Robby in El Paso, TX on Biggs AFB, continuing Dad’s SAC pilot mission. 

1963 was in a house in El Paso, TX on Calgary Ave.  In September, Randall ‘Randy’ James Elliott was born.  The family began boating and camping, in a 1957 Pontiac Starchief. Upon returning from a tricycle ride with brother around block on an eventful day in November, he would always remember the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  Robby and family visited father’s extended family in Clovis NM - Jacobs, Kos, Grandma & Grandpa.  Also Uncle Roger, Uncle Gordon & Aunt Marilee.  Robby and Ricky met Great Grandfather Elliott shortly before his passing.

1964 Saw Robby in more camping, e.g. Ruidoso, White Sands, and Gila Cliff Dwellings.  The family car was now a 1962 Catalina.  Robby liked this car - Air Conditioning!

The family moved to the DFW area, into Grand Prairie, briefly into an apartment and then a house.  The boys had a gym set which Dad cleverly setup in the garage using a lot of ropes and weights for Robby, Ricky and Randy.

1965 Moved to Irving TX on North Britain Rd.  One day Dad showed up with a new Chevrolet CarryAll – Air conditioning and three seats!  One of Robby’s favorite toys was a wagon with removable sides and pedals.  His first bicycle was golden yellow & training wheels.  Robby entered day care.  Some Christmas presents for Robby were Tonka and Nylint trucks. Dad had to attend military school and the house was boarded up and family spent this summer in Inglewood CA, into September

1966 Saw the family moved from Irving TX to Arlington TX on Mitchell St.  Now the gym set was in the back yard for Robby, Ricky and Randy.  Visits to Clovis several times in these years: Jacobs - Al & Kathy Pat, Theresa, and Jerry, and Rose.  The Kos family - Buck & Marci, Ronnie, Karl, Mark, Mike, Loretta, Debbie, Cindy, Lisa. And Elliott’s of Dad’s brother Roger, wife Judy and Jeanine. At home the Austin car became a playhouse the drive.  Mother’s sisters Aunt Joan, Helen and Ann Laska visited from upstate New York.  Joan met David and married with Robby and Ricky as ring bearers in avocado green suits, and Randy attending too. We had our first dog.

1967, Attended St. Matthew Catholic School in Arlington, TX.  There on March 26, Easter Sunday, Robby and Ricky received First Holy Communion, kneeling beside each other. Later, Robby and family moved to Irving TX, unincorporated then, on Miears Dr., just as the school year began for Robert's 2nd grade.  Robert and Richard were now enrolled in Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic school (HFN), new at the time.

1968 At HFN, Robby was now Robert, and Ricky was Richard. 

1969-1971 Continued at HFN education.  Our Uncle Jack Laska visited and Uncle David gave Robert, Richard and Randall rides in his black and orange Mustang Mach1.  The adjacent land was purchased, and Robert enjoyed 2 1/2 acres to play on.  On Dec 13, 1969 attended Dallas Cowboys win over Baltimore Colts in Cotton Bowl.  Later on, Robert would drive Dad's John Deer Garden tractor, doing his part of the chores mowing and gardening.  If winter ice and snow, car hooding the neighborhood.  The Elliott boys had pickup football games across the street with friends Fred, Terry, and Waylon.  Favorite recreation places were Lake Witney, Lake Meridian.  Eating at Panchos, Shakeys Pizza, and Southern Kitchen.  Robert picked up the electric guitar.  Dogs Heidi, Butch, & Alfie.

In Summer of 1972, 4 months in Madrid, Spain, in an apartment in Alcala de Henares near Torrejon Air Base. Side visits include shrines of Lourdes and Fatima.

1972-1973 Robert and Richard joined BSA Pack 773 Webelos.  Later with Troop 773 with revered Scoutmaster Adolf Schorn, trips included Camp Constantine.  Robert and Richard joined the Civil Air Patrol and performed radio antenna setup in the field.

1974 - Robert Graduated HFN and entered Irving High School (IHS).  Somewhere in this timeframe the Clovis NM Corn Silk Incident occurred.

1975 - IHS. Pastimes included maintaining and riding go-cart and Yamaha 250 dirt bike.

1976 - IHS. For US Bicentennial the family drove a red white blue camper from Texas across US to Brimfield St. in Clinton NY.  July 4th enjoyed fireworks with Grandpa Laska and family.

1977 - Traveled to Rhein-Main Germany then drove into Belgium, Luxembourg, France. Then crossed Channel from Calais on hover craft.  Saw previous apartment home.

1978 – Back home, the IHS Welding Team traveled to Lubbock TX and Bob won the State Welding Championship.

1979 - Began work at area precision pipe company as welder

1982 - Robert with Randall, Mike and Mark Kos, Mike Newman were groomsmen for Richard Jr and Karen, also attended by Grandma Elliott, Marci Kos, and Mr. & Mrs. RJ Elliott Sr.

1990's Robert's hobbies included playing the drums, and radio-controlled planes. 

His job was now Construction Inspector, City of Farmers Branch. For example, Dallas North Tollway expansion and flood abatement construction.  Resided near Story Rd. in Irving, TX and later moved to Farmers Branch, TX. His last move was to Allen, TX where he called home. 

During this time Bob was kind and supportive of his brother Randy and Randy’s partner Pam. Robert and the rest of the family shared joy with the birth of Randall’s daughter, Melissa Elliott. Richard enjoyed a phone call with Robert on most Friday evenings.  Bob would speak about God’s grace for us.  He was skilled with automotive repair.  On multiple occasions, he performed brake over-hauls in driveways for friends and family who would otherwise be stranded. He enjoyed teaching and showing others his knowledge on cars. 

2005 Younger brother Randall James Elliott passed away

2006 Bob married Shelley Renee Boyanton on February 25, 2006 in Allen.

Bob was a devoted employee of the City of Plano Land Records Specialist in the planning department for about 10 years. He had a passion for working for the City and helping people in many ways.

Hobbies included working on cars and driving his Camaro, Corvette, grilling for his family, and dogs. Bob loved being outside, he would spend all day outside if the weather was nice. His favorite family vacation included going to Beavers Bend National Park in Oklahoma to spend time at the lake. He enjoyed watching football and his all time favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.

Bob was always telling jokes and making others laugh. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed spending time with family. 

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Shelley Elliott; children, Brandon Ball and wife, Taylor and Ashley Ball; granddaughter, Blakeley Ball, all of Allen, Texas; brother, Richard Joseph Elliott, Jr. and wife, Karen of Rowlett, Texas; nieces, Melissa Elliott of Houston, Missouri, Allison Kindley of Rowlett, Texas, and nephews Brendan Elliott of Rhome, Texas, Chris Elliott of Denver, Colorado, and Collin Elliott of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandniece, Paisley Elliott of Rhome, Texas; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randall James Elliott, parents Richard J. & Mary Anne Elliott Sr. and grandparents.

Whether we know him as Bob, Robert, Robby, or “Pa Pa” he was known for quiet Catholic faith, patient and uncomplaining even as illness overtook him. He loved Shelley, Ashley and Brandon, his friend's and extended family.    

A Rosary service at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Drive, Plano, Texas: 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the church.  Inurnment at St. Marks Columbarium following the Funeral Mass.
