Robert Jay Herrema was born September 24, 1941 to Henry and Janet Herrema of Grand Rapids, Michigan and went to be home with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2026. He was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School. Soon after he joined the United States Army where he was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. He met his wife of nearly 63 years Virginia Nichols in Grand Rapids and quickly welcomed Michele as their first child and a year later, Mike. Nine years later they added Kyle to the family.
Bob enjoyed a long successful career in the clothing industry. He had several great stops including Heyman Brothers, Bailey Corporation, Washington Manufacturing, and Vice-President of Sales at Chalk Line.
Bob, more than anything, loved his wife Ginney and his family. He was a huge Baylor University fan and was named an Alumnus by Choice. He knew a great restaurant in every state across the country, was a huge Texas Rangers fan, and loved singing songs from the Psalter Hymnal. He and Ginney were active members of Cottonwood Creek Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Herrema; children, Michele Jones and her husband Andy, Michael Herrema and his wife Karen, and Kyle Herrema and his wife Krista; his five grandchildren, Katelyn Wiersma, Andrew Wiersma, Jenna Klenda and her husband Josh, Ethan Herrema and his wife Stephanie, and Collin Herrema and his wife Arley; he adored his seven great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Mitchell, and Beau Klenda, Brooks and Magnolia-Jane Herrema, and Ruby Jo and Hayes Herrema.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Janet and his siblings Gordon Herrema, Gerard Herrema, and Jan Slot.
Funeral Services will take place at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Cottonwood Creek Church Chapel, 1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway, Allen, Texas 75013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Manor Assisted Living in Jenison, Michigan.
