Robert Douglas, age 75, passed away July 26, 2024, in Princeton, Texas. He was born on October 19, 1948, in Littlefork, Minnesota, to his loving parents Robert Neil Douglas and Wanda (Lundstrom) Douglas.
Robert grew up in International Falls, Minnesota, where he graduated from Falls Senior High School in 1967. He pursued higher education from the University of Nebraska, where he earned his bachelor degree in Allied Health Science. He furthered his studies at Webster University, obtaining a masters degree in Hospital Administration. In 1970, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in various naval hospitals as well as aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Persian Gulf War. His dedicated service earned him the rank of Lieutenant, and he retired from the Navy on December 1, 1993. After retiring from the Navy, Robert worked as a Physician Assistant in Corpus Christi, Mathis, and Abilene, continuing to contribute to his community through healthcare.
Robert met the love of his life, Ninivel and on July 6, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, they began their lifelong journey together. Raising their two children Vanessa and Damien brought them many years of joy and countless cherished memories.
Robert’s interests and passions paint a vivid picture of his life. As a young man, he stayed active through running, cycling, tennis, and racquetball. His enthusiasm for running was evident in his participation in marathons during his younger years. In his later years, he developed a deep appreciation for graphic arts. In high school, Robert was also musically inclined, playing the trumpet and being a part of the “Dirty Dozen Band.” His love for music and performance was an integral part of his high school experience. Robert’s bond with his dog Griffy was especially cherished, highlighting his affectionate and caring side.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Ninivel, of Princeton, Texas; son, Damien Douglas and wife Jessica, also of Princeton, Texas; daughter, Vanessa O’Gwin and husband Chris, of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Breeanna O’Gwin, Saira O’Gwin, Justis O’Gwin, Tyler Douglas, Gavin Douglas, and Reese Douglas; brothers, Ron Douglas (Sherry), Tom Douglas (Claudia), Paul Douglas (Jane), Bruce Douglas, and John Douglas (Rachel); several nieces and nephews; and a host of family members and friends, who will miss him dearly and forever cherish his memory.
Robert was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Wanda (Lundstrom) Douglas; father and mother-in-law, Pedro and Guille Rodriguez; and brothers, James Douglas and Peter Douglas.
A graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
The family will receive guests during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013.
