A man of purpose and principle, Robert “Bob” Paul Helmick of Richardson, Texas passed away October 24, 2020 at the age of 92.
Born September 9, 1928, to Fred Leroy Helmick and Bessie May (McPherson) Helmick in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, he was raised by his grandparents Walter and Heppy McPherson in Bellevue, Pennsylvania.
After serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific at the end of World War II, Bob enrolled in Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he earned his degree in electrical engineering in 1950.
While still in college, Bob met and married Barbara June Rasor. In 1950, shortly after graduation and the birth of his son, he was recalled by the U.S. Army to serve during the Korean War.
Following careers in engineering and labor relations as well as serving on the City of Richardson’s Civil Service Board from 1971-1988, Bob retired, but he did not retire from living or serving the Lord. Among other things, he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and men’s Bible study leader. In his later years he was an elder with Providence Church in Rowlett, Texas.
Bob was married 64 years to Barbara, who passed away in October 2013. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his son, Walter R. Helmick and wife, Cheryl of Plano, Texas, daughter, Peggy Helmick- Richardson and husband, Gene of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica Helmick Ackerman, Amanda Potter and husband, Bill Ewoldsen of Allen, Texas, and Leticia Gates of Carrollton, Texas, Chip Richardson and wife, Tricia, of Southaven, Mississippi, and Amanda Richardson of Allen, Texas; and great-grandchildren Isaac Ackerman, Asher Ackerman, Ty Potter, Cameron Potter, Travis Potter, Robin Ewoldsen, Katerina Ewoldsen, Nicholas Ewoldsen, Nathan Jeffrey, Caroline Jeffrey, Brandon Jeffrey, Jake Richardson, George Duckworth, Lilly Richardson, Jackson Richardson and Bradley Richardson. And Heppy, his Schipperke and constant companion.
A “come and go” visitation will be held on Thursday morning, October 29, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing and masks will be required.
A graveside service for the family will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2020, at the Pavilion Garden, Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. This service will also be video recorded and made available following the graveside service on Bob’s obituary page.

Anyone attending the Graveside Service is to maintain social distancing or may remain in their vehicle. You will be able to listen through speakers set up at the site.
