Robert Glover McCain III (Bob) was born on March 14, 1942 in Houston, Texas to “R.G.” and Mary Virginia (Latchie) McCain. Bob spent his early years in Houston, Texas before moving to Arlington where he graduated from Arlington High School. In 1960 Bob enrolled at S.M.U. where he was an active member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He remained at S.M.U. for law school, where he was a member of the Law Review and excelled in Moot Court. Bob subsequently joined and became a partner in the firm Carrington, Coleman, Sloman, and Blumenthal. He then moved toward private practice and periodically joined forces with respected colleagues. Bob later retired after serving as chief legal counsel for Bank of America.
He was a voracious reader with a sharp wit and an unquenchable curiosity about the world and others. Bob was steadfast in his faith, and his beliefs were demonstrated through quiet kindnesses and considerate acts for friends and strangers alike. He had many interests, and at the age of 10, Bob was the youngest Texan to have earned a ham radio license; his daughters have fond memories of falling asleep to the faint sounds of morse code drifting down the hallway. He was an active volunteer in many organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and Presbyterian Hospital.
Bob is survived by his fiancé Melissa Mayo, two daughters, Laura McCain-Foreman (Christopher) of Boulder, Colorado and Gayle McCain (David) of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by two grandchildren Emma Foreman and Alden Foreman. The family is also very grateful for the steadfast support and caring of Rose McKinney over much of the past year.
