Robert (Bob) Allen Bates was born February 7, 1940 at Visalia, California to Chester Bates and Virginia Stafford Bates. He married Sally Ann Montgomery Taylor on September 17, 2005 at Bells, Texas. He died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas at the age of 70. He was a resident of Bells, Texas. Bob served his nation in the U.S. Marine Corps. His love and passion in life was NASCAR auto racing. He was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God in Whitewright. He is survived by wife, Sally Bates of Bells; daughters, Tammy McClary of Gainesville; Tina Cooper of Bossier City, LA; Renda Leyva of Gainesville; Cindy Newman of San Antonio; and Kathy Schubert of Corpus Christi; sons, Billy Denton of Corpus Christi; and Robert Bates, Jr. of Corpus Christi; step-daughter, Barbara Hillard and husband Dennis of Bells; step-son, Dean Taylor of Bells; step-daughter, Rebecca Taylor of Denison; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Bates and wife Sue of Fairfield, MO; George Bates of Bates City, MO; and Ronnie Bates of Bates City, MO; and many other friends and family members who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby boy. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the First Assembly of God, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dalton Jaco. Burial will follow at Vittitoe Cemetery in Grayson County, Texas. Pallbearers will be Dennis Hillard, Dean Taylor, Brian Brasher, William Taylor, Zahckry Israel and Craig Israel. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 6-8pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas. Memorials may be made for Sally Bates, to the First Assembly of God Church, Whitewright, TX.
