IN LOVING MEMORY

Robert Ames Yancey

Jul 09 1937 - Dec 29 2023

Robert Ames Yancey, 86, of Fairview, Texas, passed away on December 29, 2023. He was born on July 9, 1937, Greenville, Texas. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Bob was valedictorian in 1955 of Campbell High School in Campbell, Texas then graduated from East Texas State College (now Texas A&M Commerce) in 1959 in Commerce, Texas.  There he was a member of the Cavalier fraternity.

After graduation he worked in Greenville, Texas where some of his coworkers set him up on a blind lunch date with Gale Jones in 1960.  They were married on March 24, 1961 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Bob enlisted in the Army in July, 1960 where he proudly served his country.  He was in the Army from 1960-1964 when he transferred to the Air Force.  He was honorably discharged in November, 1966.

In 1963, Bob and Gale moved to Garland, Texas where they made their home for over 18 years and raised their 2 children, Glen and Julie.

Bob began working for Otis Engineering, a Halliburton Company, in 1964 where he served as Vice President of Finance until his retirement over 30 years later.  After a few years, he began his second career in Real Estate where he worked for Keller Williams for many years.

In 2006, Bob and Gale moved to the Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club community in Fairview, Texas.  Bob loved Heritage Ranch, even though he was not a golfer.  He and Gale were involved in many activities from traveling, games, to eating at the restaurant.  He especially loved his 600 Pelican Hills block and all the neighbors and the Republican Club at HR.

Bob was a faithful member of Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas where he was a member for over 38 years.  For over 35 years he, along with wife Gale and later daughter Julie, served as class leader for the Pacesetters Bible Class.  He loved the Pacesetters class so much.  He excelled at finding people looking for a Bible class and making the class a home.

The love of his life was Gale and he was beyond proud of his children Glen and Julie, but the apples of his eye were his grandchildren, Zach, Mark, Mallory and Alyssa.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Gale; his son, Glen (Lisa); daughter, Julie; his grandchildren, Zach Moore, Mark Yancey, Mallory Yancey and Alyssa Hardwick; his sister, Sue Hunt (Larry); and his aunt, Patsy Henninges.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Guinlan Yancey.

The family would like to share a huge thank you to all the medical professionals at Plano Presbyterian Hospital for the excellent care the last 2 1/2 weeks of Bob’s life.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Prestoncrest Church of Christ, 6022 Preston Crest Lane, Dallas, Texas 75230.  A private burial will be held that morning.  Honorary pallbearers are the Pacesetters Bible Class at Prestoncrest Church of Christ. Family and friends are invited to Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
