Robert Allen Johnson of McKinney, Texas passed away August 21, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born on October 24, 1943 to Alexander and Hazel Celeste (Edwards) Johnson in Chester, Pennsylvania. Bob grew up in Eddystone, Pennsylvania where he graduated from high school. He attended Virginia Tech on a football scholarship, graduating with a BA in Business Administration. While in college, Bob was a member of the Corps of Cadets and most importantly, met his wife, Suzanne. Suzanne and Bob married in 1966 and Bob joined the army the same year where he served as an intelligence officer assigned to the Pentagon. After service to his country, including a tour to Korea, Bob was honorably released from active duty. Bob enjoyed a long successful career of over 45 years in the insurance industry as a broker and surety underwriter.
As a husband and father, Bob was incredibly devoted to his family. Within the past year, he and Suzanne celebrated 56 years of marriage. Bob enjoyed camping and fishing, earning the nickname “Cookie” for being the designated cook on camping trips. He was a talented wood worker, making many pieces of furniture his family will cherish forever. Among Bob's favorite activities included attending as many school, music and athletic events for his grandchildren as he possibly could.
Robert is survived by his wife, Suzanne Johnson of McKinney, Texas; son, Rob Johnson Jr. of Bedford, Texas; daughters, Courtney Woodruff and husband, Jon of Allen, Texas and Lindsey Clark and husband, Geoff of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Charlie, Gracie, Lauren, Paulie, and Geoffrey; sister, Bonnie Conner of Florida; and a host of other loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Hazel Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The service will be livestreamed at https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/robert-allen-johnson. After the service, the recorded livestream will be at the same link location. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
