Robert Alexander Nelson of Plano, Texas passed away on May 12, 2018 at the age of 72. He was born on January 4, 1946 to Glenn “Doc” and Dimple (Lott) Nelson in Orange, Texas where he lived for over 30 years. Robert graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He married Karon Jones on September 13, 1980 in College Station, Texas. Robert worked for Capital Campaigns for 25 years as one of the most experienced fundraising executives in the country. He raised over $100 million for all types of nonprofit organizations. Robert primarily focused on Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development Organizations, but also implemented successful campaigns for museums, hospitals, churches, YMCAs, Boy Scouts and other nonprofits. After he retired, he was a realtor for 5+ years at Coldwell Banker Apex.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karon Jones Nelson of Plano, Texas; children, Tim Nelson and wife, Jaimie of Boerne, Texas, Tracy Nelson of Mooringsport, Louisiana, Cory Nelson of Houston, Texas and Robin Mims of Buda, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Code, Tobe and Kaylee; sister, Glenda Ryan and husband, Michael of Checotah, Oklahoma and numerous other loving family members and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Suncreek United Methodist Church, 1517 W. McDermott Drive, Allen, Texas.
