IN LOVING MEMORY

Robert Alan Jones

Jun 13 1953 - Dec 04 2018

Robert Alan Jones, of Frisco, passed away December 4, 2018, surrounded by his beloved family.  He was born June 13, 1953, in Paris, TX, to Eugenia & Robert Albright Jones.  He was proud to be an 8th generation Texan with two ancestors who fought in the Battle of San Jacinto along with several who were Texas Rangers.

Robert was a graduate of W.T. White High School, Dallas, and the University of Texas at Austin (BBA in Finance, 1975) where he met his wife, Colleen.  He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a Life Member of the UT Ex-Students Association where he volunteered with many scholarship-related events.  After graduation, Robert began his career as a custom homebuilder and also worked with his father in the real estate business.  In 1996 he partnered with Mark Zale and co-founded Newcastle homes, a successful homebuilding company built on honesty and integrity.  To date, Newcastle Homes has built over 900 homes throughout the Dallas area.

Plano was his home for over 20 years.  He supported his sons in all activities including coaching their sports teams and serving as the 2001 Plano West Quarterback Club Captain.  His love of God led him to St. Andrew UMC where he served as an usher for several years and developed many friendships.  After moving to Frisco, he joined and faithfully attended Grace Avenue UMC.  When he could not attend, he enjoyed streaming the service online.  He commented many times that a good Sunday set his course for the following week!

Robert loved gardening and planting flowers.  He was passionate about health, fitness, golf, and the Texas Longhorns.  He shared these passions with his sons who were the light of his life.  He was proud that both sons followed him to UT where they continued to bond over all things burnt orange including a glorious family trip to the Rose Bowl for the 2005 BCS National Championship game.

Robert was a kind, decent, and humble man who brought true empathy to his relationships with others and had an enviable level of patience.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Colleen Terry Jones and his sons, Robert Alan Jones Jr. of New York City and Austin Terry Jones of San Francisco; sister, Brenda (John) Wood; nephew, Ryan Wood; aunt, Shirley (Bruce) Barber; mother-in-law, Mary Terry; in-laws, Marianne (Gary) Hatsell, Elizabeth (Brent) Fox, Harold (Becky) Terry, John Terry, Samuel (Stacy) Terry; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.  Special thanks to sister-in-law, Dr. Stacy Terry, for her selfless advice and advocacy throughout his illness.  A memorial service will be held at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church, Frisco, December 14, 2018, at 1:00pm, officiated by Pastor Billy Echols-Richter.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Avenue UMC.
