Rita M. Taylor, of McKinney and formerly of Diamond Bar and Atascadero, California passed away April 13, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born June 23, 1923 to the late Maurice and Clara (Hauger) Hoffman in Vincennes, Indiana. Rita graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes. She married Charles A. Taylor on June 17, 1950 in Vincennes. Rita and Charles raised their family in Southern California and then retired to the Central Coast of California. In 2001, they moved to McKinney to be closer to their daughter and her family. Rita was a homemaker and decorator. She had a passion for hobby painting and making decorative boxes as gifts for the elderly in retirement homes. Rita enjoyed spending time and keeping in contact with family and friends. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and their Craft Ministry.
Rita is survived by her husband, Charles Taylor; son, John Taylor of San Diego, California; daughter, Joanne Engelke and her husband Joe Engelke of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Michael and Janie Engelke of McKinney, Texas; sister, Rosella Kennedy of Brentwood, Missouri; nieces Kathy Boyer of St. Louis, Missouri and Karen Kennedy of Brentwood, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles Richard Taylor; sister, Lucille Hoffman; and brother, Rev. Richard Hoffman.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 16, 2015,at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas. A reception will follow the service at the church.. The family will receive friends during a visitation Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m.
