IN LOVING MEMORY

Ricky "Don" Nelson

Nov 01 1954 - Jul 05 2021

Mr. Ricky "Don" Nelson was born November 1, 1954, to W.L. and Beatrice Nelson in McKinney, Texas.  He accepted Christ in his life at an early age. Don was a faithful member, singing in the choir and serving as a Trustee at Bethlehem Christian Church. He was educated through Dallas ISD and graduated from Hillcrest High School Class of 1972.  Don attended El Centro College.  He was supervisor with Home Co. for 19 years and later retired from Raytheon after 15 years.  Don was a hardworking family man who took great pride in providing for his family.

He was a ‘Dallas Teams’ sports fanatic! Don was a strong patriarch, role model, exuded unconditional love to all and encouraged many.

Don leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 45 years, Veleta; daughter, Inetra; son, Christian (Sarah); and eight grandchildren, Kiara, Jillian, Kyla, Kobi, Kacen, Aryanna, Kaiya and Zion.  He is also mourned by his brother, Ollie B. Nelson (Penny); sister, Helen Rochelle; and sisters in love, Martha Nelson and Joyce Nelson. There are countless family members and friends who love Don.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rashard Barak Nelson; four brothers, Esker Earl, Douglas, Charles Edward, and W.L. Nelson Junior; and three sisters, Patricia, Rosemary, and Sandra Kay.

The family is comforted by the 23rd Psalms

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.   ~ Psalms 23 (KJV)

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
