It is with great sadness that we share the news that Frederick “Rick” Arthur Thompson, 64, of Prosper, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Beloved by many, Rick fought valiantly in a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and successfully completed Bone Marrow transplantation on September 10, 2020. His family is thankful for his wonderful medical team, and also his generous donor, without whom we could not have gotten this far in his fight.
Rick was born on May 21, 1956 in Independence, Missouri to the late Frederick and Nancy Thompson. A lover of the Kansas City Chiefs, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, classic rock music and ALL kinds of desserts, Rick was loved by so many and will be missed dearly. Rick graduated from Arkansas State receiving his bachelor degree in Radio & Television while attending college he worked as an on-air radio D.J. Rick spent most of his working career in television sales and management. In recent years, Rick worked alongside his wife in their family business. Rick was a member of Cottonwood Creek Church, where he was happy to volunteer with the Audio Video Team before he was diagnosed with AML. In his spare time, Rick was an avid photographer, an excellent guitar player and loved traveling with his family on countless adventures.
Rick leaves behind his best friend and wife of 34 years, Carla Thompson. Together, they raised five children, and lived a life full of memories, laughter and love. Rick is also survived by his children, Matthew and wife Kristin Croom of Longview, Texas; Michael Thompson of Monroe, Louisiana; John David Thompson of Denver, Colorado; Kelley and husband, Kristopher Johnson of McKinney, Texas; and Ericka and husband, Brandon Maness of Bauxite, Arkansas. Affectionately known as “Babaw” to his beloved grandchildren, Austin and his fiancé, Tori, Andrew, Kennedy, Keaton, Aubrey and Aiden, he was proudly the “fun” grandparent and filled their lives with jokes, play time, and too many treats. Rick leaves behind his sister, Cherie Thompson-Craig and nephew, Matt Craig, his great-nieces Evelyn and Elsie, and too many dear friends to list. He has never met a stranger, and we knew he made a lasting-impression on everyone he met with is easy smile and funny stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved niece and nephew, Meredith and Justin Craig. Rick has received divine healing and is celebrating with his Lord and Savior in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made in Rick’s honor with The McKinney SPCA, 8411 Stacy Road, McKinney, Texas.
A “come and go” visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing. Face masks are required in the funeral home at all times.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Rick’s obituary page by clicking on the following link: Celebrationoflife.tv. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.
In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the Funeral Service.
However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Rick and show their support to his family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.
Following the funeral service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service where all are invited to attend the committal service maintaining social distancing or you may remain in your vehicle. You will be able to listen to the service through speakers set up at the gravesite.
