Richard A. “Dick” Green was born on October 11, 1937 to Charles and Geneva Green in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He passed away on April 17, 2020. He was reared in Fredonia, Kansas and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1955. In 1957 he married Ruth Tarwater in Topeka, Kansas. They had two daughters, Rhonda and Shelly.
Dick began his career with Canada Dry Corporation in 1963 after serving in the United States Army and the National Guard Reserves. In 1975 he became Division Vice President of Canada Dry. In 1985 the Cadbury Schweppes Corporation purchased Canada Dry at which time Dick became Vice President of Franchise, Cadbury Schweppes. In 1995 Cadbury purchased Dr Pepper/7UP; at that time he was named Senior Vice President of Franchise Operations. In 1997 the company transferred their headquarters to Dallas. Dick and Ruth moved to McKinney, Texas. Dick’s position as Senior Vice President of Franchise Operations oversaw twenty-five national beverage brands, and 10,000 license agreements with their franchises. He continued that position with Dr Pepper/7UP until his retirement in 2002 after nearly 40 years with the company.
Dick’s loving wife passed away from cancer soon after that move. In 2000 he married Nancy Anderson of McKinney. After retirement Dick, along with Nancy, again became caretaker of first, his father-in-law and later his mother, caring for each in their McKinney home. After both parents passed, Dick and Nancy enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Europe and Caribbean; they entertained friends, played cards and dominoes, enjoyed golfing trips and numerous cruises. In 2014 he fulfilled his goal of visiting all 50 states when he cruised to Alaska with friends.
In 1947 Dick became a Christian and chose to serve God by his unselfish and generous nature. He was quick to help when a need arose with family, friends and especially his church and for his Uncle Max Manning’s mission undertaking- “Global Missions” serving Africa and Haiti. He has been very active in First Baptist Church of McKinney since 1997, serving as Deacon, on the Budget committee, the Finance committee, as member and Director of the Agape Class, Agape Mission Committee. He enjoyed being a member of the FBC Jubilee Chorale Senior Adult choir, visiting nursing homes and retirement centers monthly. He served on various committees within the Agape class.
Dick is survived by wife Nancy, of McKinney; daughter Rhonda Sweitzer and husband Dr. Stephen Sweitzer, Live Oak, Florida; daughter Shelly Small of Lenexa, Kansas; granddaughters Stacey Jones (Jeff), Bainbridge, Georgia; Emily Bruce (Joel) of Lexington, South Carolina, Samantha Willingham of Lenexa, Kansas; grandson, Jacob Small (Amanda) of Junction City, Kansas; one great grandson, Ethan Bruce, three great granddaughters, Camilla and Lillian Bruce, and Addison Small. He is also survived by stepdaughters Shelley French (Jeff) and Stephanie Bird (Jason,) step grandchildren, Brayden Davis, Sydney Davis(significant other Josh Freedman) and Jordan Bird, all of McKinney. His sister-in-law Sharon Green also survives him plus many loving nephews, nieces and cousins, his Uncle Max Manning and his Aunt Patsy Rice.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Geneva Green and one brother, Robert Green.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Senior Scholarship Fund, 1615 S. Louisiana, McKinney, Texas 75069. A memorial service will be held at a later date when the Corona Virus Epidemic has passed.
