Richard Wayne Ratliff of Melissa, Texas passed away June 28, 2024 at the age of 79. Richard, Dada, or Pops as he was affectionately called was born to AD and Bertha Jewel (Chism) Ratliff on June 28, 1945 in Rotan, Texas.
Richard attended Hobbs High School in Texas and graduated from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. Richard was an Army Vietnam Veteran. He worked as a financial advisor for Edward Jones for over 24 years.
He married Janice Kay Albert on May 4, 1974 in Monahans, Texas. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 2024. They raised their family in Austin, Monahans and Odessa. He served as a deacon at Sherwood Church of Christ. He was a Rotarian and served as President of the local chapter in Monahans. For the last 8 years, Richard was a member of High Pointe Church in McKinney, Texas. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling, along with collecting guns and knives. Richard loved spending time with his family the most, especially teaching his grandkids to garden.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Janice Ratliff of Melissa, Texas; children, Ryan Ratliff of Allen, Texas; Courtney Freeman of Austin, Texas; Ashlee Palma and husband, Edison of Melissa, Texas. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Madison Ratliff, Knox Palma, London Palma, and Marlee Palma; sister, Sue Dulin; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Marvin, Bob, Max, Bill, Viola, Dorothy and Bertha.
Per his request, no services are planned. A family gathering in his honor will be held at a later date.
