Richard Leon Smith, age 72, of Allen, Texas passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on October 8, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 3, 1935, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Thomas E. and Lorena (Whitaker) Smith. On June 24, 1955, he married Louise Bible in Knoxville, TN. He served his country in the US Army Chemical Corps. In 1957, he graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the Unviersity of Tennessee. Mr. Smith was a chemical salesman with Velsicol for nearly forty years. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Louise; son, Greg Smith of Boulder, CO; daughter, Risa Heussner and her husband Steve of McKinney, TX; grandchildren; Kimberly and Eric; mother, Lorena Smith of Knoxville, TN; brother, David Smith of Lexington, KY; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his father; and brother, Thomas C. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 11, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Allen. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Allen or The American Cancer Society.
