IN LOVING MEMORY

Richard M. O'Neal

Apr 05 1931 - May 11 2009

We are sad to announce that Richard McClain O’Neal passed away on May 12, 2009. Richard (Dick) was born April 5, 1931 in a farmhouse in Moline, Texas. He was the son of Arvel and Opal Jewel O’Neal. Survivors include his wife Dolores, with whom he enjoyed 30 wonderful years, brother Don O’Neal and wife Lois, sons Gary O’Neal and wife Jacquie, Robert O’Neal and wife Jill, Terry O’Neal and wife Lee, stepchildren Michael Shannon, Kathy Troxel and husband Zack, Patrick Shannon and wife Michelle, Brian Shannon and Vickie Del-Gudice; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jan O’Neal, stepson Kelly Shannon, and his hunting dog Lady. After graduating from Texas A&M (class of 1952) with an electrical engineering degree, Dick served as an officer in the Signal Corps during the Korean War. Returning from the war, he had a successful 37-year career with the Square D Company rising to the position of Senior Executive Vice-President. In retirement, Dick and Dolores gave their time working with HELPS International, leading medical/surgical teams in rural areas of Guatemala to alleviate suffering. Dick enjoyed a variety of interests including flying sailplanes in competitions; sailing, hunting deer, turkey, duck, quail, and dove; bass fishing, and playing the guitar and banjo. He also loved woodworking and gardening with Dolores. We will miss his sense of humor, his curiosity for everything, his quick willingness to help anyone in need, his friendship, his storytelling, and his wonderful enthusiasm for life. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel.
