Richard M. Phillips, Sr., age 69, of Plano, Texas, passed away on May 9, 2017. He was born January 15, 1948, in Dallas, Texas to James Marvin Phillips, Sr. and Estelle (Schroeder) Phillips. On November 29, 1968, Richard married Diana Lynn Crockett in Desoto, Texas. He graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. Richard worked for Texas Instruments and then Raytheon where he retired after forty-four years of service. He was an amateur radio enthusiast. Richard was active in the Boy Scouts, as well as Vigil Honor Member for the Order of The Arrow; he was also a member of CoCoBEST.
He is survived by his sons, Ricky Phillips and wife Debbie of Sherman, Texas, David Phillips and wife Anna of Providence Village, Texas, Dale Phillips and wife Christy of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Kourtney Phillips, Ashley Phillips, Alex Phillips and Caroline Phillips; great-grandchild, Haylie Nikole; sister, Diana Phillips of Desoto, Texas; many other loving relatives and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, James Marvin and Estelle Phillips; wife, Diana Lynn Phillips; and brother, Jimmy Phillips.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Richard Phillips invites friends of Richard to make a donation in his memory to help Scouts attend next year's National Order of the Arrow Conference. NOAC was one of Richard's favorite Scouting activities and he consistently donated funds to help our youth attend this exceptional leadership and motivational event. Checks should be made out to "Order of the Arrow, BSA" and should include a notation for "Richard Phillips NOAC Donation."
