Richard Joseph Sandoval, Jr. passed away on August 10, 2023, in Anna, Texas at the age of 53. He was born to Richard and Lillian (Clapp) Sandoval on March 18, 1970, in Pasadena, California.
Richard grew up in Fountain Valley, California. After high school, he joined the Army where he served 8 years honorably. Richard served in Germany 1990-1994 and blessed his family with his daughter Alex while stationed there. After his time in Germany, Richard was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas, where his second daughter, Cara joined the family. Richard served during the Gulf War and received his National Defense Service Medal. Richard earned his Master’s of Business Administration while in the service which transferred him into more leadership roles within healthcare. Following his service, Richard worked at several hospitals throughout his career gaining a large community of “work family”.
In April of 2018, Richard met Kelly, and they were married on October 18, 2019, in Durant, Oklahoma.
Richard was a tremendously optimistic person. His family says Richard was someone who could always find the “brightside” to any situation. He was welcoming and kind to anyone he came across. Richard was always seeking adventure, whether it be a new hiking trail or a trip he spontaneously planned for others to tag along. Richard was a man full of faith and was a walking testimony. Faith led him to be a great leader and friend to all that knew him.
Survived by his wife, Kelly Sandoval of Anna, Texas; daughter, Alexandra Lasseter (Micah) of El Paso, Texas; daughter, Cara Harrison (Dalton) of Haltom City, Texas; daughter, Kylee Themins of Sherman, Texas; son, Matthew Themins of Anna, Texas; daughter Haley Woodhead of Frisco, Texas; son, Jacob Darnell (Andrea) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Anthony Themins of Ardmore, Oklahoma; father, Richard Joseph Sandoval, Sr. and Carmen Cedillo Sandoval of El Paso, Texas; sister Deborah Grimes (Paul); nephews Cody and Christian of Costa Mesa, California; grandchildren, Graham, Clarke, Reid, Hayes, Kent, Rose, Noelle, Kyson, Blakeley, and Blakeleigh; as well as his dog Sadie of 16 years and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Evelyn Hart.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church, 1248 West Hurst Boulevard, Hurst, Texas 76053. Interment will be held at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211 at 1:00 p.m. following the service.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
