Richard Joseph Rogers was lifted up to the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016, following a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Oxford, England on November 22, 1952. Richard’s father served in the military, so as a child, Richard’s family traveled around the world. Richard was passionate about music. He especially enjoyed playing his Fender Stratocaster and Ovation guitars, even when his wife fussed because the amp was so loud. Richard and best friend, Mick Stanley, married twin sisters. The four of them became inseparable. Richard enjoyed making annual visits to the State Fair of Texas and vacationing together each summer in South Padre Island and Surfside, Texas. Richard especially looked forward to fishing with Mick. Richard was a wonderful father to his Sphinx cat, Jinx, and equally devoted to his loving Chihuahua, Chiquita.
He was a special finisher with Travis McLaughlin Finishing for many years. He later worked for Verizon in Plano for several more years before he retired.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Farren Rogers, and father, George Frederick Rogers. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Sharon Rogers; his loving sister, Karen Rogers and her significant other, Matt Rogers, who reside in England; sister-in-law Carol Stanley and husband Michael, brother-in-law Randy Ochoa and wife Leah; niece Kate Dillon and husband Zach and great-nephew Harper Dillon.
Richard will be laid to rest on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial graveside service at IOOF Cemetery in Farmersville, Texas, with Dr. Clayton Oliphint officiating.
