Richard Heyl Allen, age 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on January 2, 2024. He was born on September 10, 1938, in Charleston, Illinois, to the late Edward Briggs Allen and Irma Nelda (Isenburg) Allen.
Dick graduated from Decatur Township High School and pursued higher education at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He earned his master’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. On June 9, 1962, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Hopp, in Dwight, Illinois.
A dedicated educator, Dick served as a teacher of Science and Math at McArthur High School in Decatur, Illinois. He also had a distinguished career in Industrial Relations with United Airlines, where he dedicated 32 years of his life.
Dick's passion extended beyond his professional life. He was an accomplished singer with the New Tradition Barbershop Chorus in Northbrook, Illinois, competing nationally and internationally, bringing joy to many with his musical talents.
In his leisure time, Dick found delight in spending winters in North Fort Myers, Florida. He was an avid tennis player for many years and loved long-distance cycling. His adventurous spirit led him to explore (travel to) local and international destinations.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love, warmth, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will be remembered by family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Allen of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Sherry Natzke and husband, Chris of Allen, Texas; son, Robert Allen and wife, Michelle of Sycamore, Illinois; granddaughter, Caitlin Rae Natzke and fiancé, Spencer Sibert of Plano, Texas; grandsons, Josh Natzke of Aubrey, Texas and Logan Allen of Sycamore, Illinois; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Shepard; and brother, Philip Allen.
Services will be held at The First Congregational Church of Dundee, Illinois, on Saturday, February 3, 2024 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m.
