Richard Edward Hayes, age 62, passed away on November 8, 2025. He was born on July 18, 1963 in Corpus Christi, Texas to his loving parents Robert Moses Hayes, Sr. and Maxcine (James) Hayes.
Richard graduated high school from Southern University Laboratory School with the Class of 1981. Richard enjoyed his high school years, where he excelled in the classroom and as a student athlete. He played basketball and football and was awarded both football and academic scholarships. Richard went on to attend Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana—where he graduated with honors in December 1984 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Immediately thereafter, Richard moved to Dallas, Texas, beginning his professional journey at the J.C. Penney Regional Office. Over the years, his career took him to several major companies—most notably AT&T Corporation. However, Richard was also an instructor and teacher in Dallas Independent School District for five years. Most recently, Richard served as an Operations Agent with Southwest Airlines, a role he truly enjoyed.
He met his wife, Toinetta “Toni” Dixon, in 1979 when the two were in high school, and they married on June 21, 1986 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Together, they built a life and were blessed with two sons, Regis and Richmond, who are their greatest pride and joy.
Richard accepted the call to ministry and preached his first sermon in 1994. Over the years, he served in various capacities: Associate Minister at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park; Assistant Pastor at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas; Assistant Pastor and Business & Technology Administrator at Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony; as well as Assistant Pastor at Berean Bible Fellowship.
Richard is survived by his wife, Toinetta Hayes of Plano, Texas; sons, Regis Hayes and Richmond Hayes also of Plano, Texas; sisters, Debera Seals (Roland) and Constance McNeeley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Sarah Hayes of Zachary, Louisiana; double first cousin, Adrain Hayes of McKinney, Texas; mother-in-law, Betty Dixon of Baker, Louisiana; two Godsons, Carlton Dunn of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Ananias Hayes of McKinney, Texas; in addition to a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly and forever cherish his memory.
