Richard “Dickie” Dow Horn, age 88, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2017. He was born on June 22, 1928 in McKinney, Texas, to John Henry and Ida (Lewis) Horn. On December 10, 1950, Dickie married Martha Sue Culver in Dallas, Texas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Macon during WWII. Dickie was a lifetime funeral director, starting when he was fourteen years old at Harris Funeral Home in McKinney which he acquired in 1958; he later acquired Crouch Funeral Home and spent his final years at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for over fifty years. Dickie was a 4th generation member of First Christian Church in McKinney, where he was the Chairman of the Building Committee and served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Horn of McKinney, Texas; children, Richard Kent Horn, Sr. and wife Debra, Julie Hudson and husband Jim all of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Richard Kent Horn, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Monica Loera and husband Josh of McKinney, Texas, Drew Hudson of Plano, Texas, Sarah Hudson of Aubrey, Texas and Meredith Hudson of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Madison, Katy, Ashlyn and Noah; many other loving relatives and friends.
Dickie is preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Ida Horn; infant daughter, Melinda Sue Horn; siblings, Tipton L. Horn and Melba June Stovall.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2017 at First Christian Church, 1800 W. Hunt Street, McKinney, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation, being held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
