Richard was born in East Orange, New Jersey in 1946 and moved to Edina, MN with his family in 1954. He graduated from Edina High School in 1964 and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before enlisting in the Army to serve his country in the Vietnam War in the Army Security Agency. He was a man of faith and family with a deep love for his country and the outdoors.
After being honorably discharged from the military, he returned to Edina where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Connie Taylor, in 1971. Theirs was a match made in heaven that lasted more than 51 years. They moved to Plano, Texas in 1982. Together they raised three beautiful children and became Nanny and Pop-pop (Pops) to five wonderful grandchildren. Richard worked in the commercial cleaning services industry until he retired in 2011.
He attended and served on several committees at first United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. After faith and family, his love of the outdoors and passion for hunting, fishing and wildlife conservation were his life-long hobbies. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed historical non-fiction and fly-fishing publications. He was happiest when his family was together. Even more so if that included a hunting or fishing trip. He leaves a legacy of faith, service, honor and everlasting love.
Richard is survived by his wife, Connie Meyer of Plano, Texas; son, Eric Meyer of McKinney, Texas; son, Scott Meyer and wife, Mendy of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Anna Hensley and husband, Scott of Carrollton, Texas; grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Meyer of McKinney, Texas; granddaughter, Atty Meyer of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter and grandson, Sophie and Jack Hensley of Carrollton, Texas; and sister, Virginia Sweitzer and husband, Jeffery of Edina, Minnesota.
