IN LOVING MEMORY

Rex Dean Coppedge

Feb 07 1933 - Nov 20 2020

Rex Dean Coppedge of Dallas, Texas passed away on November 20, 2020 at the age of 87. He was born to Jess and Pearl (Robinson) Coppedge in Holdenville, Oklahoma.  Rex proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He graduated as a proud Sooner from The University of Oklahoma after first playing football at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for two years.  Rex, who was recently presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, fifth edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering was a part of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Dallas Geological Society, and the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists. He was most proud of his achievement in the discovery of the oil field Pearl (Mississippian) Field, Jack Co., Texas which he named in honor of his mother in the year of her death, 1981.

Rex will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband and father, the most loyal, exuberant friend and fellow “oily”. His work in the oil & gas industry was his passion, but his total delight was found in time spent with family, his love for OU Football, and an occasional great round of golf. He was a true patriot, not only for his country, but for truth, love and joy coming from God for all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Coppedge of Dallas, Texas; children, Mitchell D. Coppedge and wife, Lynne of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Kelly C. Stonebarger and husband, Anthony of Dallas, Texas, and Lee Ann Cheek and husband, Scott of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Samantha, Casey, Shelby, Whitney, Carson, and Riley; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Pearl Coppedge.
