Reginald "Reggie" Hughes, 86, of McKinney, TX, passed away on September 12, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born on August 8, 1940, in Selma, North Carolina, the son of the late Irene Edgerton and Troy Hughes. He is survived by his children, Amy Zemaitis and Scott Hughes; five grandchildren (Madison, Kayleigh, Jocelyn, Parker, and Madelyn); two great-grandchildren (Palmer and Reagan). He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and his parents.
Reggie grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia. There, he enrolled at a military academy before heading to college. While at the academy, he met his late wife, Nancy Roberts, through a mutual friend. He married Nancy on July 1, 1961, in Portsmouth, Virginia. They were married for 43 years before her death in 2005.
After graduating from college at William & Mary, Reggie began his long and successful career in the paper and printing business. First working for AB Dick Company and then GraphLine. After his retirement, Reggie dedicated his time to being with his children and grandchildren. Above all, Reggie was a devoted family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and cherished every moment he spent with them.
Everyone who knew Reggie thought the world of him. He will be deeply missed and remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, integrity, and intelligence.
A private family gathering will be held later in his hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia.
