Raymond “Ray” Edward Lyons, 84, of Celina, Texas peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, March 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on February 1934 in Mount Vernon, New York to John D. and Marguerite (Lucy) Lyons.
Ray served on the USS Cabot. He then went on to a management career with IBM Corporation that spanned 39 years. He spent 15 of those years working in the IBM headquarters in New York City. Ray also served as a Mt. Vernon Volunteer Firefighter (2nd Lieutenant). He met his wife Marie D. Humenn while employed with IBM. They married in November of 1960 in Jackson Heights, New York. In 1969 Ray took a promotion with IBM and moved his family to Dallas, Texas where they raised 5 children. Ray retired in 1993 and pursued his love for the outdoors by building, tearing, re-building, gardening and eventually raising a few cattle. His family will his boisterous Opera singing, his almost authentic Tarzan yell and all of his other goofy antics.
Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie of Celina, Texas; son, Ken of Pompano Beach, Florida; son, John of Celina, Texas; son, Scott and wife Melissa, of Frisco, Texas; son Chris, of Celina, Texas; daughter, Jennifer and husband Henry of Hoover, Alabama; 7 grandchildren, Kelli of Texas; Trevor of Texas, Matthew of Alabama, Natalie, of Alabama, Landon, of Texas, Isabella of Florida, and Harper of Alabama; great-granddaughter, Sammi-Jo of Texas; brother, John “Jack” Lyons of New York and James Lyons, of New York.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Marguerite (Lucy) Lyons; and sister, Mary Lyons Pinza.
Family request that donations be made in Ray’s name to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, TN.
