Raymond Harvey Matthews

Raymond Harvey Matthews of McKinney, Texas, passed away on January 15, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born on December 23, 1929, in Berkeley, California, to Clifford and Ruth Elvera (Berglund) Matthews. Raymond entered eternal rest surrounded by the love of his family and the memories of a life well-lived.

On September 12, 1950, Raymond exchanged vows with the love of his life, Joan Elinor Goudie Matthews, in Mimico, Ontario, Canada. Their union was a testament to enduring love, commitment, and partnership as their marriage spanned 72 years. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with shared joys and the beauty of building a family. During this time, they moved 28 times across the world eventually ending in McKinney.

Raymond served his country proudly in the United States Air Force flying rescue helicopters during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and continued to work for the federal government with the Federal Aviation Administration. Upon his retirement he had more time to pursue his love of golf.

Raymond is survived by his children, daughter Wendy Boyd, of McKinney, Texas, son Michael Matthews and wife, Patty of DeSoto, Texas, daughter Cindy Moreland and husband, Steve of McKinney, Texas, and son, Christopher Matthews and wife, Richelle of McKinney, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Carol Glen.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 122024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
