Raymond "Dick" Caldwell

Raymond “Dick” as many knew him was born in Copeville, Texas on February 8, 1928 to John and Maybelle Caldwell. After graduating from Farmersville High School in 1945 he enlisted into the United States Army. During this time he served a tour in Japan. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and The Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. After his tour of duty, he met Billye Sue Hickman of Princeton. The two married on November 16, 1953 and just recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He committed his life to serving the community of Leonard, including the Leonard I.S.D. school board for 18 years and as a volunteer on the Leonard Fire Department for over 20 years. His love and passion for supporting kids was evident by his dedication to Leonard Little League and Pony League Baseball, and his continual support of Leonard Tiger athletics. Dick was employed by Texas New Mexico Power, which is now First Choice Power, before retiring after 42 years of service. Dick worshiped his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was an active member of the Valley Creek Baptist Church in Leonard. Dick is survived by his wife, Sue and their three children: Susan and Eddie Lively of Emory, Jay and Lana Caldwell of Farmersville, Kyle and Beverly Caldwell of Crandall. Dick loved spending time with his eight grandchildren: Jon Felmet, Misty Lively, Candice Lively, Tyler Lively, Jacob Caldwell, Jared Caldwell, Abby Altman, and Bailey Caldwell and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by siblings: J.T. and Billie Faye Caldwell of Copeville, Jack and Laveda Caldwell of Garland, Christine Stevens of Boyd, and Dorothy Tate of Farmersville. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, George and Bill Caldwell. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard, Texas. Service will be held on Thursday, November 20 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Leonard. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Valley Creek Baptist Church – Building Fund, P. O. Box 397, Leonard, TX, 75452.
