Ramona S. Melton went to be with the Lord on Thursday July 30th, 2026. She was born in Tulsa, OK to Ruby and Harry Stottlemyer. Ramona spent most of her childhood and adult life in Fort Worth and McKinney, Texas. She married David Maxwell Melton and had two children while living in Texas, and treasured being able to stay at home with them throughout their childhood. She enjoyed volunteering at their schools, teaching Sunday School at First Christian Church of McKinney and being a member of Owl Forum in McKinney along with many other local organizations. Ramona and her husband, David, moved from McKinney to Birmingham in 1977. While living in Birmingham, Ramona was actively involved in The Assistance League of Birmingham where she served as President, and Chairwoman of the Homewood store. After 15 years they returned to McKinney for another 20 years and eventually moved back to Birmingham in 2014 to be closer to family.
Ramona, affectionately known as Nana, treasured her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to babysit, to be present at their events, and always wanted to bake something sweet for her family to have. She was a wonderful baker of desserts. Ramona loved a family event. She attended every gathering until November of last year. Whether it was Sunday night Mexican, a holiday, a birthday party or a trip to the beach, she loved being included and was often found singing and dancing at the end of the night. No matter what the occasion, Nana was almost always laughing. Her laugh was contagious.
Ramona is preceded in death by her husband David, her parents, sister Beverly and two brothers, Gene and JR.
Ramona is survived by and will forever be remembered by her daughter Tanya Cooper (Skip) and son Ernest Melton (Sandra). Seven grandchildren, Wil Cooper (Dawson), David Cooper (Serina), Griff Cooper (Jessica), Carlton Cooper Jackson (Joseph), Cate Melton Clanton (Donny), Carey Melton Dyer (Bill), and Elizabeth Melton Thompson (Matt). Ten great grandchildren Wiley Cooper, Parr Cooper, Wells Cooper, Andie Cooper, Zoey Clanton, Maddux Clanton, Hollis Dyer, Caroline Dyer, Emerson Thompson and Kellen Thompson.
The family would like to thank the amazing women who cared and loved Ramona so well for the past three years. Ann Adams, Angela Murphy, April Brown and Lulu Coleman.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held Saturday August 8th at Canterbury Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.
