Ralph Edwin “Ed” Maglisceau of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on April 14, 1938, to Albert Maglisceau and Louise (Beil) Maglisceau in Olean, New York.
Ed was raised in North Tonawanda, New York, where he and his brothers were standout students and athletes and where his parents served the community as teachers at North Tonawanda High School. Ed continued his studies and his football and baseball career at Cornell University, where he met his wife, Anne Sterling. Their marriage was a lifelong partnership filled with family, travel, and countless cherished memories. Ed and Anne recently celebrated their 65th anniversary this past July.
After briefly serving in the US Army, Ed worked as an executive for IBM for over 30 years and was consistently recognized for his ability to bring people together to work for a common goal. Through his work for IBM, Ed and his family lived in the greater areas of Baltimore, Boston, Washington DC, Binghampton (NY), Jackson (MS), and New Canaan (CT). When Ed retired from IBM, he and Anne moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they lived for over 30 years before moving to McKinney to be closer to family.
In each town where he lived, Ed served within his community and within his Presbyterian Faith. Because sports had always been such a big part of his life, he also volunteered to coach each of his children in youth leagues, and he attended all their games when he wasn’t coaching. Ed also worked as a high school and college football referee for over 40 years, and this was always a big joy for him as it allowed him to stay close to his favorite sport.
After retirement, Anne and Ed’s Presbyterian faith that led them to their next adventure in Santa Fe, where they served in the Presbyterian church at an adult education center. Ed was also asked to serve on various governmental committees and think tanks in Santa Fe. In time, Ed gravitated toward teaching as well, leading graduate classes at the College of Santa Fe and business classes at the Institute of American Indian Arts. During tax seasons, Ed also worked with H&R Block, helping others with their taxes because he loved the puzzle of doing taxes, and he knew he could always find people more money.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His warmth, devotion to family, love of sports, spirit of service, and generous heart touched the lives of many. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Maglisceau of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Richard Maglisceau and wife, Sondra of Frisco, Texas, and Jim Maglisceau and wife, Anita of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Jeannie Merrill and husband, Chip of Silver Spring, Maryland; sons, Tom Maglisceau and wife, Stephanie of Celina, Texas, and Bill Maglisceau of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren, Susannah Casey and husband, Sean, Sam Merrill, Joey Merrill, Tony Maglisceau, Will Maglisceau, and Andy Merrill; as well as a host of other loving family members and friends.
The family will gather in late September for a small celebration of Ed’s life, and later this fall a permanent memorial will be placed at Ghost Ranch, just outside of Santa Fe, where Ed and his family shared so many special memories.
For over five years, Ed’s family has funded the Albert and Louise Maglisceau Scholarship for graduating seniors and teachers at North Tonawanda High School. The family will continue this scholarship while also honoring Ed by renaming the award the Maglisceau Family Scholarship.
