Ralph Arthur Boatman

Ralph Arthur Boatman, retired pharmacist, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Plano, Texas.  Ralph was born July 24, 1937 in Sherman, Texas, one of six children of Ernest A. Boatman and his wife, Myrtle May Agnew.  Ralph was a graduate of Sherman High School, Class of 1955.  After high school, he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad.  Ralph received his professional training at The University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy, graduating with the Class of 1967.  In June 1967, he joined the SuperX Drug Store chain in Sherman, Texas where he served the medical community and customers for 20 years.  When Kroger closed the SuperX drug store in Sherman, Ralph transferred to the Kroger store in Nacogdoches, Texas as Pharmacy Manager, serving from 1986 until retirement in February, 2000.

Ralph was a patriarch, devoted to and beloved by every member in his blended family.  He married Martha Lou Chandler May 30, 1959 in Kingston, Oklahoma.  They were the parents of three children: Cynthia Kay Boatman (David Davis), Vickie Lynn Boatman and Ralph Randall “Randy” Boatman (Rebecca).  Sadly, Martha Lou died August 17, 1971.  Ralph married Dorothy Lynn “Dottie” Hicks on March 3, 1972 in Sherman, Texas.  They were the parents of two children: Robert Bradley Boatman (Merielle) and Tara Beth Boatman.  Ralph is survived by his wife, Dottie; five children; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren.  He is also survived by five siblings: Edward Lee Boatman; Margaret LaJuan Boatman (Paul Durham), Rachel Marie Boatman Gregory, Barbara Gail Boatman Burge, James Edwin Boatman (Jean) and numerous nephews and nieces.  Ralph was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2022 at the historic Walnut Grove Cemetery, near Prosper, Collin County, Texas where four generations of his wife’s family are buried. His brother, Reverend James Edwin Boatman will officiate.   A family visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North Allen, TX 75013.
